A VIEW FROM THE SIDEWALK.

Sir Ambeth's commute

Recently Sir Ambeth Ocampo wrote about his arduous commute in a piece, Dysfuctional Transport System. Harsh title, but nothing can be closer to the truth. His commute resonates with what I experience and I strongly believe a lot of people do as well.

I tried this Ateneo bus once, giving up because in the late afternoon, transport out of BGC is difficult. I walked all the way from Market Market to Ayala to get home. Doing so led to the realization that our roads are made for cars, not people. [...] Although McKinley is tree-lined and low-density because of the green of Manila Golf Club and Forbes Park, what little fresh air produced by the trees was obliterated by vehicle exhaust.

Someone should dig deeper into the dichotomy of priorities between public and private vehicles with respect to our countries goals of sustainability. We shouldn't settle for less nor stop at the bare minimum.
